Philosophy
Cornelia Connelly School of the Holy Child, a Catholic, independent, college preparatory secondary school for girls, attempts through a small school environment and in a Christian tradition, to create an atmosphere conducive to the full development of young women capable of contributing to a changing world.
Basic to this aim is an underlying belief in a God who loves and cares for each individual and who calls us to love and care for ourselves and others. The members of the total Connelly community are encouraged to accept this Christian obligation to work toward social justice. This sense of mission is reflected in personal attitudes, responsible action, and human relationships among students, faculty, parents, and the larger community.
The development of the whole person is primary. Therefore, the student's spiritual, moral, and psychological development, as well as her intellectual, aesthetic, and physical well-being are major concerns of the School.
Belief in the worth and dignity of every human being guides all efforts to help each student develop self-esteem and direct her talents and abilities toward the service of others. In this age of emerging women, it is important to foster independence and dignity in the context of Christian ideals. Therefore, the student is helped to develop and accept responsible freedom.
Intellectual challenges develop independent thinking and the ability to make responsible choice. These decisions, which use the experience of the past and the present, enable the student to make better decisions now and in the future.
Curiosity, creativity, and research will stimulate the student's growth. These intellectual pursuits, combined with a sense of beauty and the joy of living are essential components in forming her attitude toward life.
In this context, a student of Cornelia Connelly School is called upon to model Jesus Christ and to take am active role in the church to which she belongs.
